Pakistan Technology Council - PTC
Government is planning to establish a council for technologists of Pakistan. It is also reprted that this council will be named as Pakistan Technology Council.
Pakistan Technology Council will be a statutory body, to regulate the technology profession in Pakistan. Its main functions will be to work as a platform for technology professionals, registration of technologists, and accreditation of technology programs run by universities / institutions.
History of Pakistan Technology Council (PTC)
In May 2010, first national level meeting of all Pakistani Technologist Associations was held at Islamabad. Following organizations participated in the meeting:
- Pakistan Council of Technologists (PCT) Islamabad – Host
- Pakistan B. Tech Graduates Society (PBGS) Gujranwala
- Pakistan B. Tech Engineers Community (PBEC) Lahore
- B. Tech Engineers Association (BTEA) Peshawar
- B. Tech Engineers Association (BTEA) Karachi
In result, a national level joint platform was established named as Pakistan B. Tech Action Committee (PBAC) whose members include the Head of each B. Tech Association. It was decided that PBAC will negotiate with the Government of Pakistan on one point agenda, i.e. Establishment of Pakistan Technology Council (PTC) as an entity under Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), which will be separate and in parallel to the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC).

On 1st March 2012, representatives of PBAC and MoST (Ministry of Science and Technology) held a meeting under the Chairmanship of Secretary MoST regarding Establishment of Pakistan Technology Council. They properly decided and explained the issue about establishment of PTC- Pakistan Technology Council. A separate committee will be formed for establishing the governing body of PTC as soon as possible.
During the meeting MoST Official said that PEC (Pakistan Engineering Council) is completely unable to define the status and scope of registration for B. Tech Engineers and PEC is failed to distinguish Engineering Sciences and Engineering Technologies. So, Ministry of Science and Technology has decided to provide a completely separate platform to B. Tech Hons & B. Tech Pass Graduates and DAE Diploma Holders. Technologists will be registered as B "Professional Engineers" and "Professional Technologists". It is also expected that proposed Pakistan Technology Council will also develop career and promotion criteria for technologists and also provide opportunities of higher education in engineering technologies.
